NJCU Announces 2022-23 Student Government Association Executive Board

JERSEY CITY, N.J. | (NJCU)鈥檚 Student Government Association (SGA) has announced the results of its elections to decide its executive board leadership for the 2022-23 academic year.

Thyquel M. Halley was overwhelmingly elected to a second term as student body president. The current junior leader also serves as a voting member on the Board of Trustees as a Student Representative. The Jersey City native and Dickinson High School graduate is a Political Science major with minors in Pre-Law and African American Studies.

鈥淚鈥檓 very excited to serve as your SGA President for a second term,鈥 said Halley. 鈥淲e have a great team for the upcoming year and I can鈥檛 wait to work with them to provide services, activities, and advocate for you! Enjoy the summer and see you in September!鈥

The other four leadership roles will have newly-elected voices next year. Marco De La Cruz was selected as SGA Executive Vice President. Darwin Garrido won a three-way race for SGA Vice President of Finance. Alice Johnson was chosen as SGA Vice President of Internal Affairs. Ruth Diegue will serve as Vice President of Public Relations and Marketing.

De La Cruz resides in Union City, N.J. and is a graduate of Union City High School. He is majoring in Accounting with a minor in Economics. Garrido is from Plainfield, N.J. and Plainfield High School and majors in Biology. Johnson is a native of East Orange, N.J. and a product of the East Orange STEM Academy before coming to NJCU where she majors in Marketing with a minor in Psychology. Diegue is from Orange, N.J. and Orange High School and also majors in Biology.

The outgoing SGA Executive Board for 2021-22 鈥 with the exception of Halley returning as SGA President 鈥 includes Alan Cruz (SGA Executive Vice President), Alexandru Platonov (Vice President of Finance and Administration), Ameelah Carvin (Vice President of Internal Affairs) and Rosy Gomez (SGA Vice of Public Relations and Marketing).
