NLAPH Fellowships Awarded to Dr. Erin O鈥橬eill and Adjunct Professor Stacey Flanagan
JERSEY CITY, N.J. | The National Leadership Academy for the Public鈥檚 Health (NLAPH) has announced that two 国产探花 (NJCU) professors have been named 2021 Fellows. Dr. Erin O鈥橬eill, professor in the Health Sciences Department, and Health Sciences Adjunct Professor Stacey Flanagan 鈥 the Director of the Jersey City Department of Health and Human Services were each selected as 2021 Fellows.
The NLAPH is run by the Center for Health Leadership and Practice, a center of the Public Health Institute, with generous 国产探花 from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and The California Endowment.
The focus for this fellowship is to recognize and bring together leaders from diverse sectors to improve health and advance equity.
鈥淲e are delighted that Dr. Erin O鈥橬eill and Stacey Flanagan have been selected as part of the 2021 Fellows cohort for the National Leadership Academy for Public Health,鈥 said Dr. Tamara Jhashi, NJCU Provost and Senior Vice President. 鈥淭hrough a competitive process, they were selected among a group of 63 Fellows across the country to work on targeted solutions to critical public health issues with the goal of improving evidence-based practices to achieve health equity in our communities. In our current time of a public health crisis, the Fellows will engage in a shared experience that will undoubtedly lead to innovation and greater depth of understanding in addressing our current and future public health needs. That NJCU will be part of this cohort speaks to the good work that our faculty are doing in partnership with the community.鈥
The National Leadership Academy for the Public鈥檚 Health (NLAPH) began in 2011 to provide training to four-person multi-sector teams from across the country to advance their leadership skills and achieve health equity in their community. The NLAPH has been in existence since 2012 with less than 800 total fellowships awarded.
Dr. O鈥橬eill and Director Flanagan are representing team Healthier JC for NLAPH鈥檚 2021 cohort as one of 14 national teams 鈥 existing of a total of 63 fellows.
The Healthier JC team鈥檚 goal is to further progress on innovative and sustainable solutions to bridge cross-sector services to individuals suffering from violence by connecting and aligning systems of care and intervention agents. Fellows of this program are expected to use the academy and available coaching from internationally renowned Public Health experts to improve population health by constructing innovative solutions and infusing the outcomes of this year-long leadership program into their respective public health fields, including higher education, government, and non-profit sectors.
